Business & Computer Science

The Business & Computer Science Department welcomes all students to sign up for courses that peak their interest.  Our courses develop practical skills in 3 career clusters and 10 career pathways.  Through choosing a pathway, students are able to concentrate on a specific area of study to see if this might be an interest for a future career.  Students can earn multiple pathways by focusing their course of study in several areas.  Our department  works hard to create engaging lessons and activities that give students a look into the real world of business.  Students apply concepts to practical assignments that prepare them for college and careers.

Unique to our department are several things.  Students taking the Business Management class have the opportunity to work in our school store, The Red Zone, where they can gain experience in retail sales.  The Entrepreneurship class identifies a product needed in the school, and markets and sells the item to the school community, with the potential to earn a profit if sales go well.  Accounting and Personal Finance students are eligible to apply for employment through our school's branch of the Charter Oak Federal Credit Union, where students are paid to work as branch tellers.

In addition, several Business courses offer students a chance to earn credits at the college level.  Some courses earn credits at Quinebaug Valley Community College.  These are:  Computer Literacy, Accounting, Business Management, and Introduction to Programming.  The Business Communication class earns 3 credits through Eastern Connecticut State University.  This is a great opportunity for students to get a jump start on earning credits for college.
